Dibs! Loot System
NEW! Temporary Dibs! Spreadsheet

Dibs! is a zero-sum, roll-based loot system that is designed to promote raid progression, optimize upgrades, and be as fair as possible to veterans and pugs alike.

All players enter the loot system with 0 dibs points (DP). Any DP earned or spent are recorded by player, rather than character, to allow greater freedom of raid slots without players feeling "gypped" out of points or unable to gain upgrades.

On its surface, Dibs! resembles a familiar raid environment with two roll phases for main and off spec. Characters who need an item for their main spec are given first priority. If nobody rolls on the item, it opens up to off spec.

Main spec and off spec refer to a player’s role within the raid (tank, healer, strength dps, agility dps, and spell dps) and as such the pure dps classes (Warlock, Mage, Hunter, and Rogue) have no off spec. All items appropriate to a character’s main role may be considered main spec for that character, regardless of the specific talents he or she has spent points in.

Guild members may declare an official main spec for their character, which will be used for all loot rolls without regard to the character’s current spec. This allows guild members the freedom of versatility to fill raid slots without worrying about loot. For guests and pugs, a character’s main spec is the role he or she was invited into the raid to fulfill.

There is no DP requirement for rolling in the main or off phase, allowing new raiders to get upgrades even if they haven’t earned any DP yet. A player may even roll if his or her DP total is negative! Winning a main spec item still costs DP, however, and may put the player further into debt.

When a player has accrued at least 10 DP, he or she is eligible to roll in the dibs phase. This phase occurs before the main phase and is also for main spec only. The player who wins an item in the dibs phase may not roll dibs again for the rest of the raid lockout. The losers of the dibs phase may try again on other items so long as they have 10 DP.

The winner of a main spec item (won in either the dibs or main phase) pays DP for that item. The amount of DP paid is equal to the number of members in the raid plus standby players. These points are distributed to all who are present for the encounter, with any leftovers (usually at least one) given to the guild. The winner must pay for the item, even if it would put him or her into debt.

There is no penalty for being in debt and having a negative DP total. The only DP limitation on loot distribution is that you must have at least 10 DP in order to roll in the dibs phase. A player may still roll and win items in all other phases with less than 10 DP.

There are no upper or lower limits to the number of DP a player may have. Since only one dibs item may be won per player in a single raid lockout, accumulating a large number of DP has little benefit. A player cannot save up anything to the point that he or she is guaranteed to take an item over all other contestants. There is always a roll.

As mentioned earlier, when a player pays for an item, some of the DP goes to the guild. Any DP earned by the guild may in turn be awarded to players for learning and practice on progression encounters, donations to the guild bank, full raid attendance while on standby, helping out other raiders, and other positive behavior.

Players may also be penalized DP for poor conduct, excessive tardiness to raid, absence from a raid, disrupting an encounter in progress, or other negative behavior. These penalties are paid to the guild and can put a player into negative DP. Note that players who sign up as "tentative" are not penalized for missing that raid.

A player is forbidden from selling or auctioning any item he or she won with a roll in a Dibs! raid. Players should not offer to buy an item from the winner and may be penalized DP for doing so. Players may not compensate other players to roll or not roll on an item. However, discussing who the item is the best upgrade for and making allowances for your fellow raiders is encouraged. All bind on equip items won in any phase other than rot must be equipped immediately by the winner.

If the player who won an item decides not to use it, he or she forfeits the item to the next highest roll or a new roll is made between eligible parties if the original roll cannot be found. Forfeiting an item reverses all DP spent and earned when the item was first distributed and the new owner of the item pays DP as appropriate.

Specialty items, such as mounts and bags of emblems, are not normally main spec but may be considered main spec for all who are present in the raid at the loot master’s discretion. Declaring specialty items to be main spec opens them up to the dibs phase for everyone with 10 DP. Specialty items should be announced as main spec before the raid begins. Crafting materials and recipes are only main spec for characters with the profession and current skill to use them.
